What happens next?

As we work in close partnership with our franchisees, we’re quite selective about who we work with and hope you are too? Our recruitment process is designed for both parties to establish if “the fit” is a perfect one.

Once we have received a completed application form and reviewed it for suitability. We will start the recruitment process and supply you will all the facts and figures you will need to establish if working with Riverford is the right choice for you.

If your preferred territory is not currently available, we will add your details to our database so that we may contact you in the future of any change.

Below shows the general timeline of our recruitment & launch process.

Initial enquiry to final presentation can take 10-12 weeks
1 Initial telephone interviews - with franchise team members.
2Day out with local franchisee
it's essential to experience what life as a Riverford franchisee is like. We also ask you to prepare a SWOT analysis on the business.
3Face-to-face interview at the farm with the franchise services manager  and Business development manager
this is to determine if the fit is mutually beneficial. Your SWOT analysis will be reviewed and discussed.
4Business plan & marketing templates provided
Meet with the FSM & BDM to talk through the business plan & marketing templates. You will be supplied with demographic and financial data for the territory.
5“Homework” business planning & research
Contact Riverford franchisees, suppliers etc, conduct your own thorough research to complete the Year 1 marketing plan, 5-year business forecast and presentation.
6Business plan submission & review
Plans and presentation submitted by email to BDM & FSM for review.
7First business plan presentation
Present business plans to FSM, BDM and the General Manager at the farm.  If succesful, the date will then be set for presentation to board for formal approval.
8Business plan presentation to board panel @ Wash Farm, Devon
The Riverford Board of Directors will assess your business plans and make the final decision whether to approve you or not, as a Riverford franchisee.
Minimum 6-8 weeks
9Post-approval
  • The asking price & terms of sale will be agreed with the vendor
  • The Solicitors will be instructed
  • Training week & launch dates will be set
  • Training & launch fee paid to Riverford as deposit (£5,500 +VAT)
10Transfer phase
  • Legal transfer of business. The Franchise Agreement and Sale Agreement will be drawn up
  • You will need to commence the business set-up – banking facilities, van purchase, online payment application, VAT number, insurances, office set-up etc.
11Training & exchange
  • Exchange of contracts takes place 1 week before training week commences
  • Training week commences (5 days, Mon-Fri at wash farm in Devon)
12completion
  • Legal completion and business transfer to take place approx. 1 week after training.
